Announced formation for Milan of Allegri. Amelia between the posts, defensive line made up to 4 from right to left Bonera, Mexes, Thiago Silva and Antonini. Diamond in midfield with Van Bommel the top down, top up Seedorf, Ambrosini and Emanuelson mezzali. Ibrahimovic and El Shaarawy pair of attack.
TACTICAL DEVELOPMENTS OF THE MATCH
Particularly interesting is to see the work of the 3-5-2 of Juventus against 4-3-1-2 AC Milan, which provides, in initial phase of possession from the defensive line, movements other than those provided by the Rome of Luis Enrique , other groups with the “defense to 4” tackled by Juventus with 3-5-2. In contrast of Roma, who in the early stages of the action draws a “defense to 3” with the retreat of the median between the two centrals and the simultaneous advance of the two fullbacks, Milan tends to carry a ball around the defensive between 4 components into the line low, at this stage of the game, the two fullbacks.
We analyze the choices made by Conte to counter the initial stages of the Rossoneri maneuver. The two strikers are centrally located to tackle the two central defenders of Milan.
With the external ball to Milanisti fullbacks, leaving the two fullbacks Caceres and Estigarribia as seen from the two figures that follow. The choice of Conte against the lower fullbacks of a defense to 4 is thus to deal with the two fullbacks, a brave and consistent with the defensive principles fielded so far from Juventus.
The slide below shows right the layout of Juve to address the early stages and at the expense of the defensive line of the operation of AC Milan. Note how the mezzala of the strong side (Ambrosini) is taken from the inside midfielder (in this case Padoin) and the median Van Bommel, is pressed by the mezzala of the weak side.
This system of outputs is sometimes varied depending on the positions taken in the field by the players of Juventus or AC Milan, in particular on the left side of Juventus attack. From that side meet the incessant insertions on the strikers line of Emanuele Giaccherini and tracks often played at ball possession of Emanuelson. Giaccherini, with much greater frequency then Padoin, inserts (and we’ll see well) continuous at a line of Juve’s strikers.
This often leads him to be in a position so advanced and it is “easier” for Juventus attacking Bonera with the left midfielder instead with Estigarribia. To contribute to this variation of outputs there are traces of Urbi Emanuelson who often, the ball around the defenders, extends deeply on the right Rossoneri attack. This movement is absorbed by Estigarribia so that leaves the burden to go out on Bonera to Giaccherini. The following figure shows what is described above: the red-rimmed is partially hidden by the graphical result and of playing time there are Estigarribia and Emanuelson, in the right wing. On Bonera then exits Giaccherini. In these cases, Pirlo goes near Van Bommel.
On the opposite side of the field, with Padoin and Ambrosini that interpret more statically the role of mezzala, the situation described is less frequent and therefore Caceres exits with continuity wide, with Padoin internal . The defense in their own half following what has been seen with the 3-5-2, with a tight control on the part of defenders on the opponents strikers and the garrison on the weak side from the fullback (in the case of the figure below, Estigarribia) .
The offensive play of Milan in general provides little presence in the central area of the strikess in order not to give too many references to opposing defenses and prepare the field for insertions of midfielders. Even in this match and with the aim of expanding as much as possible the Juve defense of 3, Ibrahimovic and El Shaarawy play very open.
In general, the movements of the attack of Milan are well-contrasted, both for the good pressure exerted by the strikers (especially Borriello) and by midfielders on the Rossoneri bearers of the ball, both for good readings carried out by Barzagli (excellent on Ibra which dissociates almost always behind him) and Chiellini, Bonucci with very able to cover both centrally anticipating situations and, finally, for the work on the weak side from the fullbacks.
However, just by the movements of the strikers of AC Milan and Juventus fullbacks inaccuracies are born the best chance for Milan (with the exception that happened about 71 minutes from Ibrahimovic after a wrong hallway of Barzagli) and the equalizer of El Shaarawy . Let’s see for the first time what happened to the young striker of AC Milan in 16 minutes the first half. The action comes from far away and start with an aggressive pressing of Padoin on Ambrosini
Ambrosini breaks free from Padoin and leads the ball to center field. Caceres, instead of running towards his own half, cut toward the center “following” Ambrosini. Note on the extreme left of the Rossoneri attack the position of El Shaarawy and Barzagli.
Ambrosini opens Bonera, Barzagli is forced to tighten on Ibrahimovic and Caceres, who has “lost time” in a useful little inner race towards Ambrosini is fatally late on El Shaarawy exchange for receiving the play of Bonera, face and overcome Barzagli in the area and concludes from close.
The goal of the draw of El Shaarawy born from the choice of Milan to “empty” the penalty area associated with a rather serious error of Estigarribia. The ball to Ibrahimovic, marked by Pirlo, to the left of the Milan attack. Notice how the other offensive players of AC Milan, Robinho and El Shaarawy, are on the left, forcing the Juventus defenders to move in their right area, leaving empty the center field.
In the center of the field is still Ambrosini taken with relative ease by Estigarribia. Ibra is free of Pirlo and plays a ball to Antonini. At the center of the area Estigarribia can control Ambrosini, because there is no inclusion of other strikers to control. But the Paraguayan make a mistake, does not take Ambrosini and tightens towards the near post, leaving the Milan midfielder free to receive the cross from Antonini and serve from behind the inclusion of El Shaarawy.
Not having the ball the two strikers of Milan play mostly going in pressure on Barzagli and Chiellini. A flare-up Milan pressing high on around the ball of the Juventus defenders , pulling the man of Pirlo (usually Seedorf) and throwing him suddenly in pressure on Bonucci.
Except for a single situation, the sudden pressure phases of AC Milan are “punished” by Juventus who is attacking the spaces created by the movements in pressing the Rossoneri players. In the sequence of slides that follow is El Shaarawy, who has exchanged positions with Seedorf and to give up Pirlo and to raise the pressing of Bonucci. Van Bommel is up to press Pirlo.
The ball travels by Bonucci to Chiellini, who finds Giaccherini that is inserted right in the space vacated by Van Bommel and can attack the home defense.
In the next sequence however, Van Bommel remains in the area of Giaccherini; the pressing of Seedorf on Bonucci, Padoin shortens towards the ball followed by Ambrosini. The freed central space is taken by the movement in meeting of Del Piero who receives from Bonucci; Thiago Silva goes out on Del Piero.
Del Piero is playing behind on Pirlo. Borriello attacks the space left unguarded by Thiago Silva and receives the launch of Pirlo.
The above examples show how that the pressure of AC Milan on Juventus players is always rather ineffective. The maneuvers full of movement without the ball and creation of spaces for the Bianconeri are not effective in the process of non-possession of Milan. The Rossoneri choose to deal Estigarribia and Caceres, always rather high during ball possession, with their fullbacks, facing Del Piero and Borriello, in fact, with a 2 against 2 which favors the reception of the juventine strikers that provide ample reference point for their offensive maneuvre. Within this trend fit the receptions of Borriello, whose characteristics allow Juventus to play also long balls at a profit to the attack. The video below shows some examples of long plays to Borriello, well managed by the striker.
The fulbacks are always a reference line and a useful pass, but the real key to the brilliance of ball possession phase of Juventus is given by the movements of mezzali and in particular by Emanuele Giaccherini, just perfect in selecting the areas and the times of insertion behind the line of the Milan midfield. Giaccherini is, less consistently Padoin, creating constantly, with their movements, useful lines of passage, and particularly effective because behind the Rossoneri midfield, for the Bianconeri ball carriers.
Particularly in trouble with this in mind, Ambrosini and Van Bommel, clearly beaten by the dynamics ( perfect times) of bianconere mezzali. With so many lines of passage, useful and effective are further enhanced the ability of Andrea Pirlo of choice of the most useful pass in the development of the maneuver. Typical movement of Giaccherini is to attack the deep space, on receiving of a striker that comes short of receive.
The first goal of Caceres can become a symbol of the game. The movement of Giaccherini is customary: on receipt of Del Piero, attacked by Mexes, Giaccherini is attacking space and receives from Del Piero. On receipt of Giaccherini, the other midfielder cut deep inside and forced Antonini to tighten, leaving the whole lane for Caceres to score the goal, all alone on the rebound of Amelia.
A goal that highlights the coordinated movements of the whole team, the traces of mezzali, the constant search of the depth of the exterior and ultimately the ability of the offensive play for Juventus to put completely out of the phase speed of the Milan defense. A goal that deserves to be seen on video.
Even the action shown in the next video contains many of the themes developed during the ball possession of Juventus. The action starts in fact with a played long ball to Borriello who defends the ball and get it on Pirlo. On receipt of Borriello the two mezzali attack the deep space and commit the Mialn defenders who are not so willing to go out early on Del Piero who can reach comfortably in the shooting area thanks to the movement of Giaccherini and Padoin.
Is still limited to the action shown in the video below with Giaccherini that cuts deep on receiving of Vucinic and, received the ball from the latter, serves Estigarribia who is attacking depth.
The game is all played on these themes. AC Milan maneuver rather slowly to try, and in the absence of better and efficacy, played long towards Ibrahimovic. Juventus instead causes difficulties with its passing operation and constantly aimed at creating a dangerous situation for the opposition, the phase of non-possession of Milan, constantly forced to chase players of Juventus.
Many potentially dangerous situations created by Juve, often limited by a Del Piero oriented for the personal solution Only after the opening goal of Caceres, Milan manages to put more pressure on the defense of Juventus, thanks also to Robinho who is attacking deep spaces with greater decision then Clarence Seedorf moved to the position of midfielder. An accomplice of the reaction of AC Milan is worse, probably of athletic nature, the provision of Borriello and Del Piero, whose pressing on the Rossoneri central defenders decreases in intensity.
The game is back on pre-advantage track when Juventus makes the complete replacement of the pair of attack with Vucinic-Quagliarella that increase the pressure again on the Rossoneri defenders and give new energy and technical skills in the construction of the Juventus maneuver. The second goal was just a reward for a match played in my opinion much better than AC Milan who ended his match with a 4-2-4 and a lot of long balls directly searching for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
A Juve from the midfield up is fielding his reserves and debuts Padoin and Caceres and taketh with merit San Siro. Really good performance of Juve, also considering the names remained on the bench and / or in the stands. The 3-5-2 of Juve, after the performance against Udinese and Roma, continues to provide increasingly convincing performance.
Specifically, the AC Milan game always shows a “blanket too short” in no ball possession phase. To try to put more pressure on the Juventus ball carriers, Milan is forced to move Van Bommel from his position before the defense, but the dynamism of Giaccherini absolutely perfect and partly Padoin, constantly builds solutions for vertical passage of the Juventus ball carrier, with the Rossoneri midfielders almost always in trouble, delayed and forced to chase.
The central space is useful for the reception of the two strikers and fullbacks Estigarribia and Caceres constantly attack the depth by putting in difficulty, especially on counters, the AC Milan defense. Under no possession, only a couple of lapses of Caceres and Estigarribia to give Milan some danger, otherwise denied from the very goo trio of Juventus defenders and also from the good pressure on the sources of the game made by mezzali, from the fullbacks and also the strikerss, with particular reference to Borriello.
A brilliant and authoritative performance of Juventus at AC Milan home and a good result in view of the return match. Also seen grappling with a defense of 4 different from that of Rome during the ball possession, we can try to take stock of 3-5-2’s Antonio Conte, tactical solution now clearly like the 4-3-3 rather than tactical experiment to deal with “mirror” certain opponents.
The two strikers present in the module give Juventus a chance to put more pressure on opponents defenders and in particular facilitate counters of the team can count on a double point of reference on which to support the maneuver. Counterattacks moreover favored by the remarkable ability to run along on the various Lichtsteiner, Caceres, Pepe, De Ceglie and Estigarribia. All strikers in team can play with great profit in the attacking duo.
Anyway, if it’s 4-3-3 or 3-5-2, impresses the quality of play of Juventus, extremely sophisticated, effective and enjoyable. Without fear of being denied, I can say that few teams in Europe play so well football. A further confirmation of the great work being done in Vinovo, the team manages to express a great football and their ideas with strong couplings of “subs”. With all due respect to those who say “they only run and have great determination” and /or ” but Milan plays better”.
